the big swooping back feathers (above) were my favorite part, so I (had to go for round two and) brought out a neon orange marker — the color matches the sprightliness, I don’t know how else to put it — to do the below…
I love how the top of the chicken’s head came out, but the rest of my penwork didn’t do nature’s pretty curvature any justice
instead of using line (above), I’m sculpting him as I go (below) — direct painting with oil pastels — and emphasizing roundness
translucent oil pastels on white gesso glow even more than neon orange marker
the three together present the art process — open-ended exploration, iterating on an idea, finding new ways to see, etc
